Risk Management Policies and Procedures

June 2022

Campbelltown Joggers Club is an inclusive club where all members of the public are welcome to join.  Junior members (under 16 years) are welcome at our weekly track events and our monthly Junior Cross Country events.

Campbelltown Joggers Club does not tolerate discrimination or member harassment and expects all members to respect each other and look out for one another’s wellbeing. In the event of any criminal or threatening behaviour, law enforcement authorities will be engaged.

Campbelltown Joggers Club maintains First-Aid kits both at the clubhouse and with the Track coordinator.  These kits are suitable for minor injuries only, if major injuries occur, ambulance services will be immediately rendered.

Campbelltown Joggers Club maintains an automatic defibrillator at the clubhouse that was partly funded by the NSW Government Local Sport Defibrillator program.  Multiple authorised members have access to the clubhouse should the need arise to use this device.  The defibrillator instructs all users to call the ambulance service as a first step.

Risk mitigation for Sunday club runs:

  • Sunday club runs are held every other week when there is no scheduled handicap championship event. These events are usually held on public roads, the route of which is advertised in a shared calendar which is publicly available;
  • Notice of the route is also provided a few days before the Sunday via social media to ensure all members are aware of the course;
  • Most routes are also available on the club website, and can be downloaded onto participants sports watches if they support that function;
  • On the day the Run Organisers (Committee position) ensure a map is on display to all participants;
  • Run organisers describe the course to all participants before the run commences;
  • Routes are changed if weather conditions are likely to make the scheduled route dangerous, notice of changes are communicated via social media, with a new map on the day and by verbal description by the Run Organisers;
  • Runners are encouraged to stay on the course set so in the event of an incident it is easy to find any runners requiring assistance;
  • Runners are reminded of safety precautions to take when running on public roads including running towards the traffic when possible, and always giving way to traffic, regardless of “right of way”;
  • Runners are reminded that the safety and wellbeing of other participants overrides the importance of the championship;
  • Junior Cross Country is usually held on handicap championship days and is a wholly supervised and off-road event.  Juniors up to the age of 16 are encouraged to participate. Volunteers are available as marshals around the course to direct junior runners. All juniors participating must be members of the club, with the exception of those running for the first time as a trial.
